Spring is such a wonderful time of year. So many things come to life, including ourselves typically. Spring brings on this new and bright energy that seems to flow right through you to lift your spirits and get you motivated. Spring is the perfect time to get out and explore!

We have put together a list of fun and exciting education spring activities to do with your whole family this season. Many activities are free or lost-cost. Surely something for everyone to enjoy. 🌷

  1. Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt: this can be as simple as walking out your back door and exploring your surroundings or finding a large park or forest near you to discover new and exciting things! We have a FREE Spring Nature Scavenger Hunt printable to get you started!

  2. Plant a Garden: this activity is truly fun for the whole family and teaches so much about plants, agriculture, and the elements. Growing your own food and herbs is also so rewarding. A garden does not need to be lavish to be enjoyed. Growing one plant is a perfect garden that can still be enjoyed and learned from by all. 🌱

  3. Visit a Farm: call around to your local farms and ask if they do tours! Oftentimes, they will encourage homeschoolers to come by, learn about their processes and animals, and even watch some activities and procedures! These are typically very low-cost, if any cost.

  4. Go Birdwatching: I volunteered at a bird sanctuary for a few years and it was such a wonderful experience. Birdwatching is enjoyed by so many already. Pair birdwatching with some educational books and you can make an entire learning unit about it! 🦅

  5. Study the Stars/Constellations: While a telescope may be out of reach for some, just looking at and discussing the stars, their shapes, where they come from, how constellations are formed, their meanings, etc… will provide such a cool and exciting learning unit. The library has tons and tons of books about stars and constellations. I highly recommend you start there! ✨

  6. DIY Kite Making: Kites are very simple and fun to put together with items you probably have at home already! Here is a link to a DIY Kite Making craft to provide a fall STEM activity into your curriculum.

  7. Lesson in Sidewalk Chalk: do an entire lesson only using sidewalk chalk! Math is a fun lesson to do with sidewalk chalk as they can see (on a larger scale) what they are working with and the written out steps to the problem.

  8. Spring Activities and Crafts: there are tons and tons of crafts and projects out there with a spring theme. We love to decorate our kitchen cabinets with our seasonal artwork. Here is a list of tons of fun Spring Arts and Crafts.

  9. Egg Dyeing and Experiments

  10. Visit a State Park: State parks are often free or low cost admission. They offer tour guides, maps, activities, and much more for hands-on learning in nature.

  11. Grow Crystals: Pinterest has great Grow Your Own Crystal procedures and tips! This is a fun, low-cost experiment.

  12. Complete a Rainfall Project: Measuring and analyzing rainfall can provide so much useful information! Completing a rainfall project is fun, hands-on and very educational!

  13. Camp in the Backyard: an old one, but a great one! Camping in the backyard is a great late-spring activity when the weather is nice and warm and nature is lively. 🌳

  14. Flower Pressing Project: This is one of our favorite activities and makes for such beautiful artwork. The process of flower pressing is simple and almost any flower can be used! 🌼

  15. Host a Homeschool Picnic: While this one may bring some out of the comfort zone, it is such a great activity to get together with other homeschool families in nature.

  16. Complete a Plants Unit Study: Plants is such a broad topic and can teach so much about nature! Check out our Plants Unit Study for Kindergarteners which provides 20 pages of lessons, crafts, activities, and more!

  17. Complete a Butterfly Unit Study: Butterflies are a tell-tale sign of spring and have much to be learned about! They are very symbolic for growth and change and make for a very fun unit study. 🦋

  18. Learn About Seasons: Simple, yet important, the seasons are a great topic to learn about this spring!

  19. Take a Zoo Trip: A zoo trip is fun for all! Take along a journal (drawing or writing), an animal species book, and whatever else you’d like to accompany your educational field trip to the zoo.

  20. Explore a Spring Festival: Exploring other cultures and their holidays and festivals is a great way to provide culture within your homeschooling and learn more about others yourself!
